For the Kaufmans, the Fishers and the Potters

When I arrived at Penn State last fall I had no idea that THON would soon touch my heart and change my life.

One year ago I became involved in THON through my Club Cross Country team and was introduced to the largest student run philanthropy organizations in the world

I have seen firsthand how personal cancer can be. Nobody should have to face that fight alone. Every year, 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni join together to fight against childhood cancer. And in February, our year-long efforts culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon to celebrate our survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and take a stand--all in hopes of one day dancing in celebration of a cure.

This past year I watched my school work for a better tomorrow, and day in and day out I watch my club, Club Cross Country work towards that goal.

Right before we all dance for a cure, Club Cross Country runs for a cure. And two weeks before dancing at THON, we hold a 46 hour treadmill marathon, Miles for Smiles. Last year at Miles for Smiles we raised over $45,000 for THON. I was able to learn about THON, cheer on my amazing teammates, and get to know the 3 incredible families that we are paired with: The Kaufmans, The Potters and The Fishers,

It was by far the most beautiful weekend of my life.

Our incredible families are a daily inspiration to choose joy wherever life takes you. It is an honor to get to know them and to do life together. They have certainly changed my life and have stolen a piece of my heart.

I run for The Kaufman Family, The Potter Family and the Fisher Family, and every family who has been impacted by pediatric cancer.

This is cause that is near and dear to my heart, so throughout the year, I will be fundraising to benefit THON in an effort to provide outstanding financial and emotional support and spread THON’s mission world-wide.

Since 1977, THON has raised over $157 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, providing comprehensive care for 4,000 families and fund critical research to take our fight beyond central Pennsylvania and spread hope around the world. The funds we raise at Miles for Smiles go towards THON to help provide year round financial and emotional support for families, ensuring that they never have to face cancer alone.

I am inspired by a future in which no child has to worry about doctor visits, sickness, needles, or medicine. I am inspired by a future in which every child can live a normal live.

And who knows? Maybe they will decide to run Cross Country :)

Join us in our commitment to turn childhood dreams into reality by supporting THON. I truly appreciate any support you provide, either by making a donation or by sharing my page on social media to spread THON’s mission.
