Join Club Cross Country in our commitment to turn childhood dreams into reality by supporting THON. This year, I am taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni supporters in the fight against childhood cancer. Our year-long efforts culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon each February to celebrate our survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and take a stand--all in hopes of one day dancing in celebration of a cure.
THON 2019 was my first ever THON, and I was so excited to be a part of it through Club Cross Country and my merchandise committee. This year I am lucky enough further my involvement by serving as the Fundraising and Finances Chair for Club XC's THON efforts. Our club will spend the majority of the school year contributing to THON through events like Donut Dash, Coin Wars, and Silly String Assassins (among many more!). Our fundraising culminates in January with Miles for Smiles, a 46-hour treadmill marathon relay in which our teammates take turns running FTK in a room filled with all the excitement, enthusiasm, and energy of THON itself!
Club XC is paired with three wonderful Four Diamonds families who have battled childhood cancer firsthand and now are able to share their experiences and their wisdom with us. Our families inspire us every day with their positivity, their strength, and their constant enthusiasm for life! Club XC is always ready to watch Corban race his dirtbike, play woodchips with Gideon, or hear one of Justin's many stories. Our families support us just as much as we support them, and that is why we run for the Potters, the Fishers, and the Kaufmans.
I am also lucky enough to be serving as one of 16 committee members on THON's Public Relations Productions committee, filming videos of all THON events to help spread awareness of the cause and show the passion and dedication that our volunteers, supporters, and families bring to every THON event! I am so excited to be a part of this committee and have a hand in all the inspiring videos that THON produces every year!
Since 1977, THON has raised over $157 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, providing comprehensive care for 4,000 families and fund critical research to take our fight beyond central Pennsylvania and spread hope around the world. We work year-round to provide both financial and emotional support for our families, ensuring that they never have to face cancer alone.
In 2019, Club XC raised the 5th highest funds benefiting THON of all general orgs on campus. This year we hope to further surpass those expectations! I hope you will join us in going the distance in our fight against pediatric cancer!
I truly appreciate any support you provide, either by making a donation or by sharing my page on social media to spread THON’s mission.
