We Run for More Smiles

Help save the lives of children battling cancer by supporting THONTM. Our Organization, Club Cross Country, is taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. Since 1977, THONTM has raised over $168 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children's Hospital. Throughout our partnership, we have ensured that over 4,000 families have not seen a single medical bill. In addition, the local research that is being done is making a global impact so that one day, we will find a cure. Each February, THON's yearlong efforts and support for the families culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon. By supporting THON, you will be joining a community committed to conquering childhood cancer.

One of the ways that Club Cross Country fundraises for THON is a 46-hour treadmill relay called Miles for Smiles. It is the team's largest fundraiser event benefitting THON. Teammates spend the weekend taking turns filling half hour or one hour slots to keep the two treadmills running for 46 hours straight. Teammates are able to collect donations based on the weekend’s total mileage ran over the course of the weekend. There are fun themed hours that help move the weekend along for the runners. One of the hours is our own family hour where we get to celebrate our three wonderful families, the Kaufmans, the Fishers, and the Potters! On the fifth annual Miles for Smiles hosted in January of 2019, the team raised $45,798.21!

Whether we are running in our annual Donut Dash fundraiser or running at one of our meets, our three amazing families are always our biggest motivators who never fail to put a smile on our faces. They support us through everything we do and give us a reason to run. We run for the Kaufmans, the Fishers, and the Potters!

Club Cross Country is a Penn State organization that participates in THON, in addition to our organization's primary purpose. Throughout the year, Organizations contribute to the efforts of thousands of Penn State students across all campuses by facilitating fundraisers, as well as providing emotional support to Four Diamonds Families.
