Make an impact in the life of a child today
When you decide to support THON™, you become a partner in the ongoing fight against childhood cancer. As part of my organization benefitting THON, I am working alongside 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni to support more than 4,000 families at Penn State Children’s Hospital to one day end the fight against childhood cancer. Since THON’s beginning in 1973, we have raised over $168 million dollars, For The Kids™!
This year, I am taking action in the fight against childhood cancer. Throughout the year, I am fundraising on behalf of my organization benefitting THON to offset the costs of treatment that insurance cannot cover, expenses that improve the welfare of kids, and fund critical research in pursuit of finding a cure. I am committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer as well as building lasting relationships with the Four Diamonds families, and it is my hope that one day every child has the opportunity to live out their childhood dreams.
Your contribution will fund innovative research that will not only enhance treatment for children in Pennsylvania but is also giving hope to childhood cancer patients worldwide! Together, with every student, volunteer, alumnus, donor, and supporter, we can spread awareness of THON’s mission across the country and throughout the world. With your support of THON, together, we will make a difference in the lives of children nationwide. Join us in the fight, For The Kids.
My THON story begins my freshman year of high school where I had the opportunity to be apart of my high school’s mini-THON. During my first year, I was an eager committee member who just wanted to expand my knowledge of THON and broaden my abilities of involvement. As the years progressed I became the finance captain my junior year, and the operations overall my senior year. After having such an integral part of THON my junior and senior year, I recognized that this was something I was so passionate about, and I was not going to stop there
Freshman year of college hit and the first thing on my list was to find a way to get involved with THON. After joining nearly every organization here, I recognized that I wanted a hands-on approach and applied to be a committee member for Special Events. The day I received the call to be a hair donation committee member was one of the most exciting moments of my freshman year. I was so eager to get the ball rolling and be there in any way I could. During your freshman year it becomes scary coming to a University where you do not know too many people. The other committee members on hair donation made this school feel a bit smaller and made me feel more included when I feared I hadn’t found my niche. THON was my reason for finding my purpose here, THON was the reason I knew this school was meant for me.
My first THON was unlike anything I had ever seen or experienced before. I walked into the BJC with my mouth gapped wide open unaware of the magic that stood before me. That is truly the best word I can describe THON as: magic.
My captains inspired me to take big leaps forward and continue to get more involved. My sophomore year I applied to be a Special Events captain. I was given the incredible opportunity as the Closer To A Cure Celebration Special Events Captain for the THON year 2020!! This experience was absolutely incredible and I got to learn from some of the most amazing people and experience THON in an entire new light. This is what made me remember why I do what I do, why we continue to fight on.
I then aspired to do more with my time and applied for a Junior year captain position and received the THON 2021 Hershey Tour Coordinator! Leading a group of committee members and forming opportunities to connect Penn States student body with Four Diamonds is the best task I could have ever asked for. My committee last year was a group of the best individuals I could have ever met. They inspire me to become a better person, better leader, and better volunteer. THON 2021 began as an unknown, yet ended as one of the most memorable.
I sit here today as the THON 2022 Donor and Alumni Relations Organization Liaison! As this year unfolds, and my final year as a THON volunteer I cannot wait to see all that comes with the people I have yet to meet! Let's make a difference!
To top off the incredible final year of THON for myself, my best friend and I have decided to dance in THON 2022! With your help through donations and support, this dream can become a reality! I can't wait to represent the incredible organization and change THON creates for families everyday! Lets do this!!!
