I fight for Kirra, Lexi, and every other warrior.
THON has been my absolute favorite organization and event since my first day as a Nittany Lion. And, being able to THON through my incredible organization, The Singing Lions, has been the biggest blessing in my life. I have had the privilege of being the Primary THON Chair for The Singing Lions for the last two years, and although I no longer hold the position, THON is still one of my biggest priorities. Read below to learn about my THON journey over the last three years, and why I THON. And, if you can, donate to this page! It would mean the absolute world to me, and every child fighting this disease.
In November 2018, just a few months into my freshman year, I had the honor of meeting our THON child, Kirra. I, along with a few other Singing Lions, traveled to Hershey, PA to visit Kirra late on a Sunday evening during some of her last days. Meeting Kirra, and her mother Nikki, opened my eyes to what these families and children go through. Yet, they welcomed us with open arms, and since then, we have formed beautiful friendships that have turned into family. Although Kirra is no longer with us, we honor her everyday by fighting for this cause, so no other child has to go through all she did. I am committed to honoring Kirra for the rest of my life, as she has inspired me to be the best version of myself, live freely, and never have too much sass!
Kirra was a spunky, high spirited young girl. She loved everyone she came into contact with, and never hesitated to roast you immediately! She loved being outdoors, fishing, and all animals, as well as all things nails, hair, and makeup! Kirra taught us all what it is like to just be a kid, regardless of whatever hardships she was facing.
Also in my freshman year, I had the privilege of meeting the Barnett family, and learned the story of Lexi. Lexi was a spunky older sister to Brayden and Ethan, two incredibly resilient young boys! Lexi loved all things pink and sparkles, and adored Taylor Swift (as do I!). Upon meeting her grandmother, Wanda, I was immediately drawn into their story. Although I never was able to meet Lexi, I feel as though she is my little sister, through the stories and memories told about her. Lexi truly was one of a kind.
THON has even inspired my future career goals! After graduating from Penn State next spring, I intend to become a Child Life Specialist. Child Life Specialists use music, play, art, and many other alternative therapies to help ease the emotional stress on children and families in the hospital. I would not have found my passion in life without seeing all THON, and the donated funds can do for these families.
It is no secret that this last year has been difficult on all of us. We even had to plan an entire safe THON weekend on our own last year! Though, these families are hit THAT much harder when facing childhood cancer. As we return to our new normal, consider donating to help these families create their own new normal, cancer free.
Enjoy some pictures down below of my many different THON experiences! Much love to all of you!
From THON: Join us in our commitment to turn childhood dreams into reality by supporting THON. This year, I am taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni supporters in the fight against childhood cancer. Our year-long efforts culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon each February to celebrate our survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and take a stand--all in hopes of one day dancing in celebration of a cure.
Throughout the year, I will be fundraising to benefit THON in an effort to provide outstanding financial and emotional support and spread THON’s mission world-wide. It is my hope that one day, every child will have the opportunity to live out their dreams.
I THON ... For Kids™.
I THON ... so every child's dreams can come true.
I THON ... so our angels' stories live on.
Since 1977, THON has raised over $180 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, providing comprehensive care for 4,000 families and fund critical research to take our fight beyond central Pennsylvania and spread hope around the world. We work year-round to provide both financial and emotional support for our families, ensuring that they never have to face cancer alone.
I truly appreciate any support you provide, either by making a donation or by sharing my page on social media to spread THON’s mission.
