Journey Together to Beat Pediatric Cancer.

When I first came to Penn State, I knew that I wanted to be involved in THON. Since 1973, Penn State students have taken a stand in the fight against childhood cancer. More than 16,500 students and 25,000 alumni volunteer on behalf of THON annually, making THON the largest student-run philanthropy in the world.

Every three minutes, somewhere in the world a family has to bear the devastating news that their child has cancer, many of which are right here in Pennsylvania. But, the most miraculous stories are those that turn pain, despair, and grief into strength, hope, and happiness. That is exactly what THON aims to achieve year-in and year-out. We strive to provide financial and emotional support for our families, ensuring that they never have to face cancer alone.

During my freshman year, I was on a Donor and Alumni Relations: Development Committee. I grew such a passion for THON that I became a Captain for the Development Committee my sophomore year. The Development Committee creates and fosters relationships with THON's growing donor base and educates the THON community about effective fundraising. I worked closely with over 40 fundraisers across the country to give them any and all fundraising/marketing resources to make their events successful. Being a THON Captain was a huge commitment, yet it was the most rewarding team experience I have ever been part of, as we all grew as philanthropists, as public servants, and as leaders.

This year, our efforts will culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon on February 21-23, 2020. My best friend, Julia Ogrodnik, and I are raising money on behalf of THON with the opportunity to dance come February. The theme for THON 2020 is "Journey Together." So this year, I ask that you come on this journey with Julia and I to celebrate our survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and take a stand--all in hopes of one day dancing in celebration of a cure.

I truly appreciate any support you provide, either by making a donation or by sharing my page on social media to spread THON’s mission.
