Make an impact in the life of a child today

When you decide to support THON™, you become a partner in

the ongoing fight against childhood cancer. As part of my organization benefitting THON, I am working alongside 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni to support more than 3,700 families at Penn State Children’s Hospital to one day end the fight against childhood cancer.  Since THON’s beginning in 1973, we have raised over $157 million dollars, For The Kids™!

Coming to Penn State, I really had no clue what THON was or how broad its impact was. Any time I had mentioned that I was going to Penn State, everyone told me I had to become involved in THON. During my first few weeks in Happy Valley, I learned about the opportunities of joining a THON committee. Luckily, I was given the opportunity of being on a Rules and Regulations committee for THON 2016-2017.

Being on an R&R committee means maintaining order and organization to keep THON running safely and smoothly for everyone involved, and learning all of the security procedures that go on behind the scenes, throughout the year to ensure THON runs perfectly. Not only that, I had one of the best captains I could ask for, met 38 amazing people and made some of my closest friends.

Sophomore year, I was on a Rules and Regulations committee again and was the Pass Leader for my committee, with another amazing captain! Learning and getting even more involved in THON has filled me with lots of happiness and even more reasons to be thankful.

I am also involved with THON through my sorority, Delta Phi Epsilon. Junior year I was given the opportunity to serve as one of two primary chairs! Throughout the year, I am fundraising on behalf of my organization benefitting THON, to offset the costs of treatment that insurance cannot cover, expenses that improve the welfare of kids, and fund critical research in pursuit of finding a cure. Additionally, last year I was a member of a Donor and Alumni Relations Committee, whose main focus was to maintain and strengthen future and present relationships! Currently, I am the Family Relations Chair for Delta Phi Epsilon! This year marks my last year involved in THON, as a student volunteer. While I am sad to be leaving an organization and a university that has given me so much all while allowing me to give so much back, I am thankful for all the families I have met, friends I have made and incredible experiences I have gained.  I am committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer as well as building lasting relationships with the Four Diamonds families, and it is my hope that one day every child has the opportunity to live out their childhood dreams. I had a very fortunate childhood and I hope that every child can be just as blessed! One day we will dance in celebration, but until then we dance for a cure!

Your contribution will fund innovative research that will not only enhance treatment for children in Pennsylvania but is also giving hope to childhood cancer patients worldwide! Together, with every student, volunteer, alumnus, donor, and supporter, we can spread awareness of THON’s mission across the country and throughout the world. With your support of THON, together, we will make a difference in the lives of children nationwide. Join us in the fight, For The Kids.
