Growing up is a beautiful thing. Let’s fight for it.

Penn State's Dance Marathon, THON, is the largest student run philanthropy in the world! It is a yearlong fundraising effort that ends in a 46-hour, no sitting, no sleeping, dance marathon, where we celebrate our survivors, remember those we have lost, and take a stand, in the hopes that one day we will be dancing in celebration of a cure. Our yearlong fundraising efforts all go towards THON's sole beneficiary, The Four Diamonds, which has allowed over 4,000 families to never see a medical bill.

This year, I am personally raising money in the hopes of dancing in THON 2020. I am registered as an Independent Dancer, which means I have no affiliation to an organization. I will be raising money yearlong with my partner, through fundraisers we plan ourselves. We are then entered into a weighted lottery, with our chances of dancing determined by the amount of money we raise throughout the year.

Why Do I Want to Dance in THON?

When I was a sophomore in high school, my dad was diagnosed with cancer, or more specifically Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma of the Bone. My heart shattered with the news, and throughout his treatment, all I kept thinking about was how helpless I was. I watched the strongest person I know become so weak, and from that moment forward I knew I had to make a difference, no matter how big or small. My father is now cancer free, and seeing him go through this process inspired me to want to help find a cure so that no family has to go through something like this.

Every kid deserves the chance to grow up and be who they want to be, whether it be an astronaut, a dancer, a doctor, or a firefighter. I appreciate any support you provide, whether it be a donation or sharing my page on social media to spread THON's mission, so that one day every child will have the opportunity to live out their dream.
