My Mission: Join me and the rest of the Penn State THON Community in our commitment to turn childhood dreams into reality by supporting THON, the largest student run philanthropy in the world.
Why I THON: From the time that I decided that I wanted to attend Penn State, I knew that I wanted to get involved with THON. I have been babysitting for various families since I was 12 years old, I was a YMCA camp counselor for the summer of 2018, and this past summer I was a nanny for two amazing little girls. These experiences have been huge responsibilities as these parents have trusted me to keep their most precious gift safe, their children. Through these interactions with children, I have learned so much about being responsible and patient and I have had the opportunity to really understand that all children's lives are so innocent and precious. I believe that every child is entitled to a happy childhood and that nothing should jeopardize their life. Cancer is such a horrible disease and no child should ever have to suffer and have their childhood taken away from them. I firmly believe in THON's mission of supporting children and families that are impacted by childhood cancer until there is a cure and no child ever has to suffer again.
My THON Experience: I have been involved with THON since my freshman year at Penn State where I was selected to be a part of the Rules and Regulations committee. THON 2018, I had the opportunity to check dancer's families and friends on to the event floor as well as I had the opportunity to interact with Four Diamond THON families and check them on and off the floor. My first THON experience was unforgettable because I remember being amazed at all of the students, volunteers, and families that filled the stands of the BJC, all supporting the dancers and encouraging them to keep dancing for the kids.
Sophomore year I joined a Finance committee where I had the opportunity to count hundreds of checks, coins, and cash that were donated to THON. It was amazing to see all of the donations firsthand that were contributing to THON's overall total. Regardless of all my obligations this year, I was determined to stay involved with THON and I am on a finance committee again where I am looking forward to engaging with my committee, count more donations, and help with THON weekend in any way possible.
Women in Business Benefitting THON: I have been involved with Women in Business since freshman year and I have loved every part of the organization. I have worked my way the past two years to holding a leadership position this year where I am currently the Membership Director. Women in Business is very active in THON and each year the WIB THON Director works very hard to create new and meaningful ways to engage members to donate and support WIB's THON efforts. I have attended various restaurant fundraisers, events, and bought merchandise where all of the proceeds go directly to THON.
Sophomore year I wanted to get more involved with WIB's THON efforts so I took part in two canvassing trips to Allentown, PA and Hershey, PA where I was able to bond with other WIB members as well as spread THON's mission and solicit donations to contribute to THON's total.
My Goal this Year: Ever since attending THON 2018 I knew that I wanted to dance for 46 hours for the kids. I have made dancing in THON 2020 my goal for the entire year because THON is a cause that I am truly passionate about. I know that I have so much more to give to THON and all of the children and families that are impacted by pediatric cancer and I would love to continue to raise money, spread THON's mission, and dance for 46 hours straight. I know that this will not be an easy task by any means, but I am determined to dance the entire 46 hours and do whatever I can to raise as much money as I can in hopes of finding a cure for pediatric cancer.
I truly appreciate any support you provide, either by making a donation or by sharing my page on social media to spread THON’s mission.
