As a senior, I am taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni supporters in the fight against childhood cancer. Our year-long efforts culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon each February to celebrate our survivors, remember those we’ve lost, and take a stand--all in hopes of one day dancing in celebration of a cure
Love 4 Lexi, is a Singing Lions THON benefit cabaret that we put on every year in memory and in celebration of our baby girl Lexi Barnett, who was taken from us far too soon. Though no current Singing Lion has ever met Lexi, her illuminating spirit lives on through her amazing grandmother, Wanda, and two brothers, Ethan and Braden.
Throughout the year, Julie and I will be fundraising to benefit THON in an effort to provide outstanding financial and emotional support and spread THON’s mission world-wide. It is my hope that one day, every child will have the opportunity to live out their dreams.
Every year approximately 15,780 children in the United States, between the infancy and nineteen years of age, are diagnosed with some form of cancer. It it Julie's and my hope that, through our efforts and the effort of all those participating in THON, we can find a cure.
Kirra Broadwater is our little girl from Singing Lions that has most recently gained her wings in December 2018. She was sassy soul with a huge heart. Being so close with our THON families even after the bereavement of our darling girls is so amazing and gives us another amazing perspective of what THON is truly about.
I personally have been involved with THON and it's mission for the past three years through service as a THON committee member and through my involvement in my three organizations on campus, SNAPS, Singing Lions, and The Navigators. As a nursing student, I have been to the Hershey Medical Center and have seen the impact that the Four Diamonds Foundation has made in the lives of these children and their families through my clinical experiences. This has allowed me to witness first-hand what THON truly means to these children and their families.
Since 1977, THON has raised over $157 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital, providing comprehensive care for 4,000 families and fund critical research to take our fight beyond central Pennsylvania and spread hope around the world. We work year-round to provide both financial and emotional support for our families, ensuring that they never have to face cancer alone.
I truly appreciate any support you provide, either by making a donation or by sharing my page on social media to spread THON’s mission. Please consider donating to impact the life of a child, and to help Julie and I fulfill our dreams of dancing for 46 hours all in pursuit of a cure!
