When you decide to support THON™, you become a partner in the ongoing fight against childhood cancer. As part of the Rules and Regulations Committee benefitting THON, I am working alongside 16,500 student volunteers and over 25,000 alumni to support more than 4,000 families at Penn State Children’s Hospital to one day end the fight against childhood cancer. Since THON’s beginning in 1973, we have raised over $168 million dollars, For The Kids™!
I have been involved in THON for my past three years at Penn State. This organization has changed the lives of so many children and families impacted by childhood cancer. I am so grateful that this organization has also changed my life and has truly made me the person I am today.
During my first year at Penn State, I was a committee member of Dancer Relations. Throughout the year, we learned how to mentally, physically, and emotionally support our dancers during THON Weekend. I was paired with two amazing dancers that stood for 46 hours straight For the Kids. This was an amazing introduction to THON! One of my co-committee members and I are now roommates :)
Last year, I was on the OPPerations Committee. This committee is dedicated year round to learn how to keep THON running during THON weekend. We set up for the 46 hour Dance Marathon and tear it down afterwards. During the weekend, we are cleaning the Bryce Jordan Center to make sure our volunteers are safe.
This year, I am taking action in the fight against childhood cancer as a Captain for the Rules and Regulations Committee. Throughout the year, I am leading a committee of 27 Committee Members, helping support Independent Dancer Couples as they fundraise, and fundraising on behalf of my committee. These funds offset all of the costs of treatment that insurance cannot cover, expenses that improve the welfare of kids, and fund critical research in pursuit of finding a cure. I am committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer as well as building lasting relationships with the Four Diamonds families, and it is my hope that one day every child has the opportunity to live out their childhood dreams.
