A-7 was paired with The Bectach Family in January of 2014 through the Adopt-A-Family program. Since then, our organization has spent a lot of time getting to know the family and learned a lot about them. The youngest Bectach is Ali, a very spirited kid, much like his older brother, Karim, was. Hussen and Laila are twins, and the oldest. Mr. and Mrs. Bectach are extremely kind and supportive parents.
Our THON child, Karim, was diagnosed with cancer in his spine in December 2012, and began chemo treatment. Though given a 12-18 month prognosis, he battled for 6 years. Karim always kept a smile on his face and had great strength every step of the way. He left an impact on every person he met, and never let his diagnosis drag him down. In May 2018, when Karim was 13 years old, his fight came to an end. Though we will miss him dearly, we treasure the time we spent with him and the memories made.
A-7 is still paired with the Bectach family, and we intend to give them endless support and encouragement during this challenging time, and in the years to come.
