Make a difference in the life of a child.
Nisha and Holly are two amazing and dedicated THON volunteers. Read their story below:
Our IDC, Holly Maitland-Mckenna and Nisha Moorthy, are taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. Since 1977, THONTM has raised over $190 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children's Health Hospital. Throughout our partnership, we have ensured that over 4,000 families have not seen a single medical bill. In addition, the local research that is being done is making a global impact so that one day, we will find a cure. Each February, THON's yearlong efforts and support for the families culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon.
By supporting THON™, you will be joining a community committed to conquering childhood cancer.
Dancing while I was at Penn State was a dream of mine, but I'm so blessed that I'm still able to support THON as an alumna. That being said, I am so excited to work with Holly as we journey together to be an IDC representing DMAIG. To get the chance to dance as an alumna would mean the absolute world to me, and I know there's a lot of work to do between now and February.
Being a part of THON had the most profound impact on my time at Penn State - I met some of my absolute best friends and introduced others to the event as well. To be able to give back to this organization in this way after graduating is truly the pinnacle of what it means to be a Penn Stater.
Please reach out if you'd like more information, and follow along as we try to make this dream a reality, I'm so grateful to you for your support! Help save the lives of children battling cancer by supporting THONTM.
I am beyond excited to partner with Nisha in the hopes that we are accepted as an IDC for DMAIG. I graduated from PSU in 1987 and had never heard of THON. I came to Penn State Harrisburg in 2007 and discovered this amazing ORG in 2012. Knowing I had to do something to help, my charity, SWIM for A CURE was born. Over the years I have watched our students pour their hearts and souls into their fundraising and dancing. I stepped in to the BJC for the first time in 2016 and was filled with so much emotion to finally see how all of the ORGs come together for this one amazing cause. I have been the Penn State Harrisburg THON Co-Advisor since 2017 and adore what our PSU students accomplish every year.
2022 is the 10th Anniversary for SWIM for A CURE and to be able to dance in this milestone year would be a privilege I would never forget. To be able to support the Four Diamond Families and all of our Dancers would be an Epic Dream come true! If I make the cut I might be the oldest dancer on record………that would be pretty cool! THONTM.
