Make a difference in the life of a child.
Help save the lives of children battling cancer by supporting THONTM. Our organization, Alpha Xi Delta, is taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. Since 1977, THONTM has raised over $190 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Health Children's Hospital. Throughout our partnership, we have ensured that over 4,000 families have not seen a single medical bill. In addition, the local research that is being done is making a global impact so that one day, we will find a cure. Each February, THON's yearlong efforts and support for the families culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon.
By supporting THON™, you will be joining a community committed to conquering childhood cancer.
Alpha Xi Delta is a Greek organization that works tirelessly each year to benefit THON™ by organizing events in order to raise funds and awareness for all Four Diamonds Families. We are especially dedicated to our five paired Four Diamonds Families, The Hurleys, The LeFevres, The Palms, The Maldonados, and The Cantareros, with whom we have formed incredible bonds with over the years. The sisters of Alpha Xi Delta are committed to serving our chapter, our school, and our community which is why we have been involved with THON™ for many years, and will continue to do so until a cure is found. With your help we hope to make THON 2022 our best year yet! Any contribution, whether it is a donation or sharing our Donor Drive page on social media, is greatly appreciated! Alpha Xi Delta is For The Kids, For a Cure. Continue reading below to learn more about our story and our families!
The sisters of Alpha Xi Delta come together year round for countless events such as Family Carnival, Hershey Park trips, Family BBQs, Penn State sports games, Tailgates, workout classes, pasta dinners, bake sales, and so much more all in support of our Four Diamonds Families and the THON community!
Alpha Xi Delta has been paired with the Madison Hurley family for 32 years, making them our longest lasting family pairing! Our THON child, Madison, is now in her 30's embarking on a life of her own; we could not be more proud of her and continue to support her in any way possible.
The Tyler LeFevre family has now been paired with Alpha Xi Delta for 28 years and our bond with them continues to grow stronger each year! Our THON child, Tyler, unfortunately lost his battle to cancer in 1997 at the age of 6. He was a bright, creative, and caring child who we continue to honor and remember every year with our THON efforts. Tyler's parents are still very involved with our organization, coming to THON weekend each year and participating in many of our other events.
Our third family is the Michael Palm family, whom we've been paired with for 15 years! Our THON child, Michael, has been CANCER FREE for almost 15 years!! Michael, his sisters, and his parents continue to stay connected with Alpha Xi Delta and support us as much as we support them. Michael, who attended Penn State himself, danced in THON 2018 and graduated in 2019. This past spring he graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Master's in Advanced Athletic Training and we are so proud of everything he's accomplished!
The Hope Maldonado family has been paired with the Alpha Xi Delta for 7 years now and we could not be more grateful for the relationships we've formed with them. After a strong fight, our THON child, Hope, unfortunately lost her battle to cancer in 2015 at the age of 14. Hope was a ray of sunshine who brightened anyone and everyone's day and she is the inspiration that led to our organization's motto, Always Have Hope, as well as one of our largest annual fundraisers, the Hope Gala. Alpha Xi Delta is extremely close with the Maldonado family and we love getting to hang out with them any chance we get!
Alpha Xi Delta's fifth family pairing is the Lesenia Cantarero family, with whom we've been paired for 5 years. Our sweet THON child, Lesenia, unfortunately passed away in 2020 at the age of 9. She was a happy-go-lucky child who enjoyed Peppa Pig and Sponge Bob (she even chose Sponge Bob as our THON 2020 theme!), and absolutely loved getting to hang out with our sisters. Lesenia is always at the forefront of our minds as we continue to raise funds and awareness for THON, and she was the inspiration to our newest motto, Stand For Sen. We make it our mission to support Lesenia's family in any way we can and they continue to stay involved with our organization and our efforts.
