I Make a difference in the life of a child.
Jackie Galang and Lizzie Soucy have been working tirelessly all year with the hopes of being selected to dance in THON Weekend 2021. Independent Dancer Couples are dedicated individuals who set up their own fundraisers throughout the year, and with the support of friend and family, obtain tickets in a lottery system in the hopes of earning a spot as dancers in the Penn State Dance Marathon.
Join us in the fight against pediatric cancer by donating, For The Kids! We have both been involved in THON throughout our time at Penn State and are eager to get the opportunity to dance in THON 2021. Our dedication and passion led us to stay up for the entire 46 hours of THON Weekend 2020 even though neither of us were official dancers. We have spent countless hours fundraising and volunteering and cannot wait to continue doing so as an IDC.
Jackie: In high school, I participated and helped run our Mini-THON. As soon as I started going to Penn State, I could not wait to get involved in THON. For my freshman and sophomore years, I joined a Donor and Alumni Relations committee, focusing on Alumni Engagement. This year, I am a DAR Captain, assisting with events for THON Nation- a platform for non-students to raise funds for THON.
I THON so that children can live a childhood full of love, laughter, and fun. I THON so that families can focus and being there for one another when it is needed most. I THON in honor of our Angels and Survivors. I THON so that one day, we can dance in celebration of a cure. THON and its mission is truly inspirational and unique and I am honored to get the opportunity to dance For The Kids.
Lizzie: My THON story is a little different than Jackie’s. Both my sister and my cousin were heavily involved in THON and I grew up watching THON through my computer screen in my kitchen with my mom. I was just amazed the impact that THON has on the kids, the families, the students and the Penn State community as a whole.
When sharing my experiences at college with friends and families, THON is the first thing I talk about. My freshman year, not only was it my first THON but I also got to watch my cousin dance. The energy on the floor was one that I can’t put into words, I realized magic that THON has. I THON so one day we can dance in celebration!
Help save the lives of children battling cancer by supporting THONTM. Our IDC, Jackie Galang and Lizzie Soucy, is taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. Since 1977, THONTM has raised over $180 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children's Hospital. Throughout our partnership, we have ensured that over 4,000 families have not seen a single medical bill. In addition, the local research that is being done is making a global impact so that one day, we will find a cure. Each February, THON's yearlong efforts and support for the families culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon.
By supporting THON, you will be joining a community committed to conquering childhood cancer.
