Schreyer Student Council participates in THON to help find a cure for childhood cancer and to honor our THON families,

the Millers and the Sylveses

Tyler Miller was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on December 30, 2011, when he was ten years old.  Remembering the day that Tyler was diagnosed with cancer, Jana, Tyler’s mother, writes, “There is nothing in this world that can prepare a parent to hear those words. Your child has cancer...how do you explain this to your child when you cannot even comprehend the words yourself...this doesn’t happen to children.. why....how.....what now...my mind was racing but not fully comprehending anything either.”  Tyler battled cancer for three years with courage and positivity.  Although Tyler was in immeasurable pain everyday, he utilized the resources that the Four Diamonds Fund provided him such as music therapy to give himself hope.

Schreyer Student Council at a football tailgate with Tyler-- Fall 2019

As a THON organization, we love attending the annual Miller Halloween party and THON with the Millers each year!  During the winter of 2018, Schreyer Student Council members attended Tyler’s mini-THON at his high school, where we saw Tyler give back to the Four Diamonds Fund.  He has always amazed us with his desire to help children who have endured similar hardships.  Tyler graduated from high school, and he is currently in Trade School to become a welder.  We recently invited the Millers to Schreyer’s tailgate for one of Penn State’s football games, and we attended their annual Halloween party this fall as well!  We have been blessed to be paired with the Millers because they have shown us the true meaning of family and friendship.

Schreyer Student Council was recently paired with the Sylves family for THON 2019.  Jack Sylves was diagnosed with Ph+ Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in July 2018, and he has continued to stay strong throughout his fight.  Jack is five years old, and his older sister, Marlowe is eight years old.  Jack loves tractors and the outdoors, while Marlowe loves art and reading.  We had the opportunity to spend time with the Sylves family at the creamery,. we had so much fun eating ice cream and playing tag for hours!

During THON 2020 we loved spending time with the Sylveses both on the floor and in the stands. Jack and Marlowe had a great time playing with bubbles and spending time with our THON dancers. Seeing the Sylveses during THON was great motivation for our dancers!  We are so excited to strengthen our bond with the Sylves family, and we cannot wait for THON 2021!

Make a difference in the life of a child

Help save the lives of children battling cancer by supporting THONTM. Our organization, Schreyer Student Council, is taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. Since 1977, THONTM has raised over $180 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children's Hospital. Throughout our partnership, we have ensured that over 4,000 families have not seen a single medical bill. In addition, the local research that is being done is making a global impact so that one day, we will find a cure. Each February, THON's yearlong efforts and support for the families culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon.
By supporting THON, you will be joining a community committed to conquering childhood cancer.

Schreyer Student Council is a Penn State organization that participates in THON, in addition to our organization's primary purpose. Throughout the year, Organizations contribute to the efforts of thousands of Penn State students across all campuses by facilitating fundraisers, as well as providing emotional support to Four Diamonds Families.
