THON OPPerations

Make a difference in the life of a child.

The Opperations Committee is taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. Since 1977, THON has raised over $168 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children’s Hospital. Throughout our partnership, we have ensured that over 4,000 families have not seen a single medical bill. In addition, the local research that is being done is making a global impact so that one day, we will find a cure.  Each February, THON's yearlong efforts and support for the families culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon.
By supporting THON, you will be joining a community committed to conquering childhood cancer.

The mission of the OPPerations committee is to create and maintain a safe and healthy environment for the Four Diamonds Families and THON volunteers at all pre-THON events and THON weekend. Through great dedication, determination and hard work, the OPPerations committee logistically plans and prepares for a year of events culminating in the transformation of the Bryce Jordan Center into THON’s home. The OPPerations committee also plays an integral role in enacting THON’s sustainability initiatives, including the goal of becoming a zero-waste organization. The OPPerations committee, affectionately known as OPP, works hard all year long to logistically plan and prepare for all pre-THON events, culminating in THON Weekend when we transform the Bryce Jordan Center into the home of the largest student-run philanthropy in the world. Much of the work OPP does is behind the scenes and is essential for a fun and safe THON Weekend. OPP follows the motto: “First in, Last out.”
