Childhood is full of wonderful memories. Let’s make every second count.

Each year, 16,500 Penn State students unite under the common goal of defeating childhood cancer and inspiring hope in those who we join in the battle. THON is the largest student run philanthropy in the world and has raised over 157 million dollars for childhood cancer treatment and research at Penn State Children’s Hospital. THON is a yearlong effort that culminates in a 46 hour no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon which starts February 21. The funds raised by THON ensure no family at Penn State Children’s Hospital will see a bill related to their child’s treatment and additionally finances critical research in pursuit of a cure.

Springfield benefiting THON is an organization of 150 dedicated students committed to bringing an end to this horrible disease. Springfield also takes on a personal role in this cause as we  support four families through their pediatric cancer journeys: the Colons, the Robertsons, the Schopfs, and the Silbaughs.  Our support is shown in many ways from cheering on our youngest performers and athletes at their concerts and recitals as well as their baseball and soccer games, befriending older siblings, parents, extended family, and family friends, visiting them when they aren’t feeling well, and just spending time with them doing everything from having tea parties to going to haunted houses and amusement parks. We do more than provide emotional support for our families, we make memories and connections with them that last for a lifetime.  They are a part of our Springfield family, and we fight as hard as we can for them. They continually inspire us with their courage and strength, and they fuel our passion in the fight for a future where no parent has to hear the terrible words “your child has cancer.”

Every gift to THON provides hope in the fight for each of our families and every family faced with this challenge. No amount is too small as every amount inspires this hope, and all funds Springfield raises directly support families impacted by childhood cancer and the researchers who aim to cure it. Here are a few ways your contribution could help a child fighting pediatric cancer:

Our goal is for every child to be able to grow up free from the burden of cancer, so they are able to create wonderful memories they will cherish for a lifetime.  Our relationships with our families have given us a firsthand view of the incredible impact THON makes through both economic and emotional support. We hope you will join us in this quest so that we can win this battle for our families and so that we can all dance in celebration.

By supporting THON, you will be joining a community committed to conquering childhood cancer.

Springfield is a Special Interest Organization at Penn State whose sole purpose is to support THON and our Four Diamonds Families. Throughout the year, Special Interest Organizations contribute to the efforts of thousands of Penn State students by facilitating fundraisers and providing emotional support to our families.
