Growing up is a beautiful thing. Let’s fight for it.

A little bit about us individually:

Zack - Hello everyone!  My name is Zack Pettoruto and I am currently a senior at Penn State studying Biochemistry & Molecular Biology with a minor in Microbiology and an aspiration to attend dental school and obtain my D.M.D. degree.  My THON involvement began in my first year at Penn State when I was selected to be a member of the Communications Committee and chosen to be one of the Student Outreach Chairs. My involvement continued throughout my next two years when I was chosen to be on a Rules and Regulations Committee my sophomore year and when I was selected to be one of the two Outreach Coordinators on the Communications Captain Committee.

Jackie- Hi everyone and welcome to our DonorDrive page! I am a Rehabilitation and Human Services major (Labor and Human Relations, and Deaf Culture minor) with the hopes of becoming a Speech Pathologist. I have been involved in THON all 3 years of being at Penn State. My freshman year I was on a Rules and Regulations Committee as the Family Relations Chair, my sophomore year I was the Event Safety Training and Development Captain, and my junior year I was the Committee Relations/Canvassing Captain and Administrative Assistant Captain on the Fundraising Safety Committee!

How We Met:

Zack’s Perspective - I first met Jackie in the Fall 2017 semester of our sophomore year when I applied to be on a THON committee.  I was offered a position as a committee member on her Rules & Regulations Committee and I accepted without hesitation because I was eager to serve on another THON committee and continue my extended involvement with this tremendous philanthropy.  Throughout the year, Jackie served as a wonderful captain, mentor, and friend to not only myself, but to our entire committee and I am incredibly fortunate that I got to meet her let alone have her as my committee captain for an entire year. Even in our junior year when we both served as THON captains, she was always there to help guide and support me in my new position.  With this being my last year at Penn State and as a THON volunteer, I am incredibly excited to embark on this new journey with someone who has tremendously shaped my THON experience thus far.

Jackie’s Perspective - My sophomore year I was lucky and honored to be chosen as a Rules and Regulations Captain. Through this position, a Captain selects 30 people to be on their Committee for the year. As I was reading applications I came across Zack’s and was simply blown away. His application was so lovely and I knew his head was in the right place for my committee. When I called him to ask to be on my Committee he gave me a YES and was so excited and happy, his amazing energy continued like this throughout the year. I was honored that he accepted my offer and throughout the year Zack was the most amazing Committee Member and friend. Getting to know him is a pleasure. He was always there to lend a helping hand and make everyone smile with his dedication to THON, our Committee and everything he does. I was ecstatic when Zack was chosen to be a Captain because he is so deserving and being a Captain is a magical experience. I am so excited and lucky to say that my friend of so long has decided to take on this journey with me to try and dance in THON 2020.

What we are doing:

This year, we have decided we would like to enter the dancer lottery in order to try and dance at THON 2020. Each time we raise a certain amount of money, we get another ticket in the lottery! Dancing at THON means no sitting or sleeping for 46 hours in support of Four Diamonds and all of their children and families. We would love if you would please consider donating!

Feel free to reach out to us with any questions!

FTK and all our love,

Jackie and Zack

Help save the lives of children battling cancer by supporting THONTM. Our Organization, Jackie Schwartz and Zack Pettoruto, is taking action by uniting with 16,500 student volunteers to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. Since 1977, THONTM has raised over $168 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Children's Hospital. Throughout our partnership, we have ensured that over 4,000 families have not seen a single medical bill. In addition, the local research that is being done is making a global impact so that one day, we will find a cure. Each February, THON's yearlong efforts and support for the families culminate in a 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon.
By supporting THON, you will be joining a community committed to conquering childhood cancer.

Jackie Schwartz and Zack Pettoruto have been working tirelessly all year with the hopes of being selected to dance in THON Weekend 2020. Independent Dancer Couples are dedicated individuals who set up their own fundraisers throughout the year, and with the support of friends and family, obtain tickets in a lottery system in the hopes of earning a spot as dancers in the Penn State Dance Marathon.
