Phi Sigma Rho takes action every year by uniting with 16,500 students of Penn State to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. THON is a student-run philanthropy committed to enhancing the lives of children and families impacted by childhood cancer. Our mission is to provide emotional and financial support, spread awareness and ensure funding for critical research - all in pursuit of a cure.
Phi Sigma Rho is forever inspired by our Four Diamonds families and our incredible THON children: Mina Rose Horan, Adley Gordon, and Josiah Garcia. They are constantly inspiring us as we work year-round to provide both financial and emotional support for the kids and their families, ensuring that they never have to face cancer alone.
In 2017, Mina Rose was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Our sisters were able to support her during her clinic and treatment days. In July 2019, Mina rang the bell as she was officially cancer free! This incredible little girl embodies the strength and bravery that every member of Phi Sigma Rho hopes to possess and she continues to inspire us every single day. This past May, Mina turned 8 years old and she is a strong, high-spirited little girl!
In 2014, Josiah Garcia was diagnosed with T-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After pairing with Chi Phi this past year, Phi Sigma Rho was so excited to welcome Josiah into our family with open arms. Josiah was also able to ring the bell as he was cancer free in 2017! Josiah just graduated high school this past spring, and we are so proud of the incredible young man that he has grown up to be!
Chi Phi and Phi Sigma Rho we so incredibly honored as we were paired with another family this past fall, the Adley Gordon family. In 2022, two weeks before Adley's 2nd birthday, the Gordon family received news that Adley was diagnosed with B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. In the past year that we have known Adley, she has shown us so much courage and strength. Adley even has end-of-treatment date, May 16th, 2024! Our orgs are so grateful to be able to support Adley on this journey!
